Cheese and Bacon Scones

Scones don’t always have to be served with cream and jam. Our Cheese and Bacon Scones are a savoury take on a tea-time favourite.

Serves: 4
Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (480g) self-raising flour
  • 60g butter
  • 90g grated cheddar
  • 90 grams chopped bacon
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg yolk beaten (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon water

Method
Preheat oven to 200C (180C fan-forced). Sift flour into a bowl then blend in butter with fingers. Stir together with grated cheese and chopped bacon. Add in the milk, mixing just until you have a soft dough. Roll dough out onto a lightly-floured surface, 1 – 2cm thick. Cut into 5 – 6cm rounds. Place rounds onto a greased tray and brush with egg. Bake in preheated oven until golden brown (about 12 –15 minutes).
